Reasons to implement Accutech Access Control

Enhancing Security in Healthcare Facilities with Access Control Solutions

Implementing electronic access control systems is essential for safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors in healthcare settings. Without such measures, unauthorized individuals can freely enter hospitals, medical facilities, maternity wards, or nursing homes, increasing the risk of violence, abductions, theft, and patient wandering. Role-based access control assigns specific access rights to individuals based on their roles, effectively managing entry and exit points. This system enables monitoring and recording of movements, providing valuable data in case of incidents. In nursing homes, integrating access control with wander management systems, including perimeter controls and comfortable wearable devices, is particularly crucial. This combination is vital in memory care units, where patients are prone to wandering and potential harm. By adopting these integrated solutions, healthcare facilities significantly reduce the likelihood of such incidents, ensuring a safer environment for all.

Compass Industry-Standard RS-485 Access Control Board

Compass: Industry-Standard RS-485 Access Control Board

Accutech Compass boards have an advanced circuit board design, with a high-speed RabbitTM processor and surface mount component technology. Compass boards can achieve nearly limitless capability within an extremely small footprint.

The small power module size makes them a great fit for gate controllers and other small area locations where typical access control hardware can’t fit. The Compass Intelligent Power Module (CIPM) options have the same horsepower of other larger, more expensive hardware. They include very large card capacities, buffers of events, and complex functionality with its use of the Dynamic Linking Tables (DLT). The power module equipment can be ordered in 1-panel, 2-panel, or 4-panel configurations.

Electronic Access Control Business Sources

The hospitals, schools, and universities sector represents a significant portion of the electronic access control market, along with office buildings. Government and utility facilities also make up a notable share, while retail and entertainment venues account for a smaller portion.

Access Control FAQs

While you already know that healthcare access control is important, you may still have some questions about the process of installation or how your access control devices will work. You can call Accutech at any time to get your specific questions answered. We’ve also included general answers to some of our top questions about security access control below.

What is the meaning of RBAC?

RBAC stands for role-based access control. This type of system allows you to set up permissions based on a user's role in order to enroll new staff quickly and easily. Role-based access control also allows you to quickly change permissions for all users with the same role simultaneously and efficiently.

How many people can have electronic access to a hospital facility?

The number of people granted access to your hospital or healthcare facility is up to you. There’s really no limit on how many people can have badge access to a building or portion of a building. You will want to be organized in keeping track of who has access cards because your building’s security depends on vigilance, awareness, and tracking.

What happens if an access card gets lost or stolen?

Accounting for human error is an important aspect of healthcare security. No one is perfect or can watch out for every threat at all times. That’s why access control and careful access control management are so important—so you can have multiple layers of security protecting your healthcare facility, employees, patients, visitors, and assets. The beauty of access control, as opposed to a key system, is that if a card gets lost or stolen, the card’s access authorization can be turned off. Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately and documented so no one will be able to use it to gain entrance to your facility.

Is electronic access control expensive?

Accutech has designed access control to be cost-effective and reliable. The cost of your access systems will depend on a variety of factors: the number of doors that need to be secured, how large your facility is, how many employees require access, integration requirements, and more. We can get you a free quote when you get in contact with an Accutech representative.

Can temporary/guest passes be created?

Yes, Accutech Access does allow for temporary access. Temporary badge access could be used under certain circumstances, such as in an elder care facility where family members visit frequently.

How are access cards’ privileges edited?

User rights are handled at a computer where you can add users, delete users, and edit access privileges. Access control credentials can be adjusted depending on the needs of the facility. For instance, a doctor may need more access to various parts of a facility than a delivery worker. There are a variety of other customization options for card access control as well.

Does access control lock doors or send out alarms?

Access control solutions can do both. You can adjust your system to lock doors if an at-risk patient such as a senior in an elder care facility gets too close to the doors. You can also adjust alarms to suit your facility’s needs so workers don’t experience alarm fatigue.

What types of facilities can benefit from hospital access control?

Any medical facility can be secured using Accutech’s access control solution. Whether you are a small facility with only a few access points or a large facility with hundreds of doors, our security solution can be scaled up or down as needed. Many of our healthcare clients include hospitals, pediatric clinics, birthing centers, senior living centers, and memory care facilities.

Do you have testimonials from users of your electronic access control system?

Yes, we are proud to serve many clients throughout the world, and many of them will tell you how much our system has improved their facility’s safety and security. Not only do we provide security, but our products improve worker efficiency, provide peace of mind for employees, preserve assets, and reduce liability.

How does access control improve job function?

Operational efficiency is important for any business, but especially those invested inpatient care. Seconds can save lives, and access control can create a more efficient workplace. Nurses and other hospital personnel will find it easier to do the job of securing and caring for patients when they know that their work area is safely secured. Specific administrative tasks such as controlling who has access to dispensaries, expensive medical equipment, and protected areas can be easily added and removed using access control software. Additionally, tracking of who has entered these areas can also be reported for auditing purposes.

Can any employee access a building or unit or can you limit access?

Role-based access control is established by assigning roles/users to access points. Only those employees who have been granted access to specific access points can enter that area of a hospital. Access control can be based on specific roles of employees, and user permissions are assigned through the software system (using a computer).
